Prohibition on deep-sea shark fishing

The new Regulation (EU) 2021/91, concerning fishing opportunities for deep-sea species, for 2021 and 2022, impose that is expressly prohibited to fish for deep-sea sharks (DWS) in fishing zones (ICES 9, 10 and CECAF 34.1.2), including the species mentioned in paragraph 2 of part 1 of the Annex to that Regulation, and it is not permitted to fish to, retaining on board, tranship, transfer or land deep-sea sharks caught in those zones.

It should also be made clear that the designation "Gulper sharks" with code CWO corresponds to a group of species, more precisely to those of the Centrophorus groups. In other words, in addition to code CWO, we must also consider in the group of prohibited species the species with codes CEM - Shortfin Mako (Centrophorus moluccensis), CPL - Lusitanian Shark (Centrophorus lusitanicus), GUP - Barroso (Centrophorus granulosus) and GUQ - Gulper shark (Centrophorus squamosus).
