Minister of Sea visited the new Angeiras Breakwater built by DGRM

The Minister of the Sea, Ricardo Serrão Santos, visited on 31-07-2021 the new Angeiras Breakwater, an infrastructure built by DGRM (Directorate General of Natural Resources, Safety and Maritime Services) to increase the safety of navigation in this port. The visit was accompanied by the Secretary of State for Fisheries Teresa Coelho, the Mayor of Matosinhos Luísa Salgueiro, the Member of Parliament Ana Paula Vitorino, and the Director General of DGRM José Carlos Simão.

The new breakwater of Angeiras represented an investment of 4.1 million euros, with 75% funding from the PO MAR2020, has 448 meters long and allows to protect the fishermen in the departure and return of fishing, by reducing the effect of sea agitation on vessels.

This new infrastructure has a quota of 6.8 meters to the Hydrographic Zero along its entire length of about half a kilometer and a quota of 8 meters in the area of the head, where it has installed a lighthouse.

Given the previous conditions of maritime access to the fishing area of Praia de Angeiras, very unfavourable in terms of waves and bottom, with implications in the number of days of inoperability for the fleet or of operation in high-risk conditions, the Maritime Works of Shelter of the Angeiras Fishing Area is a fundamental work for the fishermen of that region.

The infrastructure is built on the existing rocky outcrops, which gives it a superior solidity, whose prism of ToT rockfill (all size), is covered by submantlings and by selected rockfill mantles and, at the head, protected by 100 kN Antifer blocks.

The breakwater has been sealed with a concrete crown along its entire length and will have a service life of 50 years.
