Works at the Port of Ericeira progressing well

The work to reinforce the breakwater at the Ericeira harbour is well under way. The transportation of large rocks from three quarries in central Portugal to the work area is at an advanced stage.

A large crane has also been used to lay the rocks in the crest of the pier head.

The aim of this work is to lay 4,800 m3 of rockfill of the 100 to 150 KN range in the most worn-out area of the breakwater head, thus providing greater strength and safety to this protection work for the port.

The initial top-hydrographic survey of the basin and the port access area has also been carried out, with a view to carrying out the necessary maintenance dredging.

The dredging includes the removal of 201,000 m3 of sandy sediments from the harbour basin and the regularisation of the emersed beach, in order to re-establish maritime safety conditions for the fishing harbour and the movement of boats out and back.

The dredging will be carried out sequentially in the various planned areas, from the access channel to the beach area. The transport of sediments and their immersion in the marine environment in the coastal drift area is also contemplated, in order to promote beach nourishment and combat coastal erosion.

The total investment represents an investment of 1.6 million Euros, coming entirely from the State Budget for 2021.
