On January 1, 2022, the New Agreement on the Conditions for the Exercise of the Activity of the Portuguese and Spanish Fleets in the Waters of both Countries enters into force.

This new fisheries agreement between Portugal and Spain will be in force for the next 5 years, highlighting some changes with regard to technical measures.

Attention is drawn to the case of the Agreement for Continental Waters by trawling vessels for the reciprocal fulfilment of all biological closures established for fishing in the waters of each of the countries, including, at the beginning of the year, those for fishing aimed at crustaceans by trawling vessels, in both countries, respecting the established activity schedules and the technical measures in force in each country, namely mesh sizes and target species, as well as the need to observe all no fishing zones and use devices or mechanisms required, as well as avoid those that are prohibited in the country where fishing is carried out.
