It was with great sadness and consternation that DGRM learnt of the death of Mr Manuel Ramirez, a "great" man who dedicated his life to the development of the fish canning industry.

To all the family, friends and employees of the company Ramirez & Cia (Filhos), DGRM sends its condolences and sympathy.  
  
Manuel Ramirez was a native of Vila Real de Santo António, where he was born on 01 September 1941, and owned the first cannery operating in Portugal, founded in 1853 by his great-grandfather Sebastian. In 2015, the businessman inaugurated a new canning unit in the municipality of Matosinhos, the 'Ramirez 1853' factory, a reference of modernity and production capacity.
