Automatic fisheries licence renovation for 2023

On September 15, the renewal of fishing licenses for 2023 will begin, an automatic process as provided for in Decree-Law No. 73/2020.

In accordance with article 40 of this diploma, some requirements are verified and notifications of intention to reject the renewal of the fishing license will be sent via Bmar, under the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure. This will be verified:

  • Auction sales and/or sales notes/take-over statements for vessels unloading in non-national ports (Article 62 et seq. of the control regulation);
  • Economic link;
  • Completion of the mandatory survey under the terms of the Data Collection Regulation.

Shipowners and vessel owners must ensure that these requirements are met, in particular by completing the survey by September 15, to ensure the automatic fisheries licence renovation for 2023.

The same is available on BMar (www.bmar.pt).

Any questions about filling it out can be clarified through the BMar helpline (ajuda.bmar@dgrm.mm.gov.pt) or you can consult the DGRM portal for more information, at: "Online Services - Data Call and Report - Survey of socio-economic data of the national fishing fleet” (https://www.dgrm.mm.gov.pt/en/coleta-e-reporting-de-dados?articleId=338078).

The completion of the survey is preferably online. If you do not have the necessary electronic means to do so, you can go to the face-to-face service available at DGRM or request support from Fisheries Owners Associations and Fisheries Producers' Organizations.

Since, in accordance with the provisions of paragraph 5 of article 40 of Decree-Law No.73/2020, subject to the provision of data within the scope of the collection, management and use of data in the fisheries sector, provided for in Regulation (EU) No. 2017/1004 for the year 2023 is conditioned to the completion of the aforementioned survey, which should take place by September 15.
