CorPower - New generation of wave energy generators

On the 12th of October, a visit was made to the CorPower Ocean factory in the Port of Viana do Castelo. This company is innovating in the field of wave energy and will, in the short term, install new electrogenerator units at an advanced pre-commercial stage at sea in the Aguçadoura area. The submarine cable for injecting energy into the national grid has already been installed, and the installation of the 1st electric generator is now being prepared, which will be 19 meters high and have a production capacity of 300 KW.

The Secretary of State for the Sea, José Maria Costa, presided over the visit, with the Director-General of DGRM, José Carlos Simão, being part of the delegation. Also present were the Mayor of Viana do Castelo, Luís Nobre, the Director General of DGPM, Marisa Silva, the President and Administrator of APDL, Nuno Araújo and Joaquim Gonçalves, the President of CCDR Norte, António Cunha, and the President of the Port Community of Viana do Castelo, Luís Paz da Silva.

Wave energy is part of the set of renewable offshore energies of the future, with zero emissions, whose electric generators should eventually be made available in a commercial version. DGRM congratulates CorPower and its team in Portugal, with special emphasis on its manager, Miguel Silva, for the ability to innovate and incorporate national technology into the solutions produced.
