Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia meets with DGRM and DGPM

The Director General of the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia, Tamara Ioseliani, met with the Director General of the DGRM, José Carlos Simão, to discuss matters related to Maritime Transport and areas of cooperation between the two states and within the scope of the process of that country's accession to the EU.

The meeting took place with the presence of other technicians from the two homologous bodies and the DGPM, in which matters related to the agenda of the next IMO events and relations with ports and certification of seafarers were also discussed. Portugal, through the DGRM, has an agreement signed with Georgia for the recognition of competences of seafarers to board ships flying the Portuguese flag and vice versa.

The influence of the war on maritime transport and on the professionals on board also deserved to be highlighted in the discussion, since the Portuguese fleet has many Ukrainian seamen on board, with Georgia playing a central role in this problem given its geographical proximity. In addition to receiving many Ukrainian seafarers, Georgia has been a point of contact with families.

Several areas of cooperation and technical topics to be developed together in the future were identified, touching on matters related to maritime transport, ports, digitization, maritime spatial planning, among others.
