Japanese Oyster Control Plan

Decree-Law no. 92/2019, of July 10th, which establishes the legal regime applicable to the control, detention, introduction into the wild and repopulation of exotic species, and ensures the implementation, in the national legal order, of Regulation (EU) no. 1143/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 October 2014 on the prevention and management of the introduction and spread of invasive alien species. º 1143/2014, of the European Parliament and of the Council, on the prevention and management of the introduction and spread of invasive alien species, creates an exceptional regime for the production of species used in aquaculture, identified in its Annex III, for which control plans are to be drawn up, with a view to safeguarding the undesirable effects that the production of these species may have on nature conservation and biodiversity.

To this end, the Action Plan for the control of the Japanese oyster [Crassostrea (Magallana) gigas] in mainland Portugal has been published, which should be applied to all aquaculture establishments where the Japanese oyster is produced. The plan can be consulted here
