Request for inspections

As a general rule, they are intended for cargo ships with a gross tonnage equal to or greater than 500 and for passenger ships on international voyages.

However, the scope and applicability of each convention is specified by each convention and/or requirement criteria of its flag State.

An example of the position of the flag State is the requirements of Decree-Law No. 106/2004, of 8 May, the Portuguese State extended the annex to the SOLAS Convention to all cargo ships flying the national flag, 500 or more, on trips between the mainland and the Autonomous Regions of the Azores and Madeira and between these Regions.

The application is submitted online through the Balcão Eletrônico do Mar (BMar):

  1. Go to www.bmar.pt, register and authenticate.
  2. Go to New Order, select the Order Category "Vessels" and the Order Type "Request for Inspections".
  3. Fill in the required data.
  4. Attach the documents in the appropriate fields for this purpose.
  5. Check the information and submit your request.

For each certificate to be requested, the applicant/holder must find out the possible documentation to be presented, namely: Convention/Directive/Decree-Law/Ordinance/ or other diploma that supports and regulates the certificate and the information that may exist on the certificate in the DGRM website.
