Propulsion engine installation, replacement or cancellation

Replacement or cancellation of propeller engines, propeller shafts and propellers.

This information is intended for all boat owners who intend to replace, cancel (detach) the propulsion engine, shaft or propeller.

Engine replacement or cancellation in Type 5 recreational craft, with a length of less than 5 m, must be requested directly to the local body of the Maritime Authority.

The replacement of the propulsion engine, shaft or propeller in fishing vessels is only carried out with authorization from the Fleet Division, according to (What is the procedure?)

Replacement of engines, shafts or propellers of vessels:

  • The request is made through the Request, available under “Executar Serviço”, and sent to DGRM, to the email address dcn.secretaria@dgrm.mm.gov.pt
  • The Application must be accompanied by the documents indicated in "What documents are required"
  • Incomplete processes will be rejected.

 

Cancellation (detachment) of boat engines:

  • The request is made through a Request, available under “Executar Serviço”, and sent to DGRM, to the electronic address dcn.secretaria@dgrm.mm.gov.pt, indicating the reason for the detachment.
  • The Application must be accompanied by the documents indicated in "What documentation do I need"
  • Incomplete processes will be rejected.

Replacement of propulsion engines, shafts or propellers in vessels:

The base document in all processes is IGN68, which must be sent in duplicate.

A Declaration from the entity responsible for assembling the engine must be sent, as well as the following documents, according to the type of vessel:

Pleasure Craft: copy of the vessel's booklet, Declaration of conformity of the vessel or, Builder's Certificate

Fishing Vessels – property title, authorization from the Fleet Division, Technical File of the engine in cases where the power to be installed exceeds 120 kW

Other vessels: Copy of the Title of Ownership, Technical File of the engine in cases where the power to be installed is greater than 130 kW

Cancellation (detachment) of boat engines:

  • Craft - copy of the vessel's bookletPleasure
  • Fishing vessels – copy of ownership title and Fleet Division authorization
  • Other vessels – copy of the title deed.

As engine replacement is a modification to a vessel, the rate table in force defines different values for different types of vessels.

For recreational boats, the fee table establishes:

  • modification project approval
  • final assembly and operation inspection of the drive system
  • issuance of technical information.

 

For all other vessels, the fee schedule establishes:

  • modification project approval
  • final assembly and operation inspection of the drive system
  • inspection of components of the shaft line, including the marking of the respective parts.
